building dream home

Building My Dream Home

Years back, the thought of building my own dream house sounded like the best move I’d ever make. Well, it’s not a bad move after all. However, I always thought things would fall into place. In an year or so, my dream house would be up just as I had visualized in my head. I’m now six months into building my dream home; and it has been totally mentally draining.

Even after hiring contractors that I trust to handle all the physical work; I still have to foresee the construction on a daily basis. Much worse even after my initial plan I still find myself being forced to make quick adjustments almost on a daily basis. Well, so far I’m proud of the progress made however; I must admit, deciding to build your dream house is not a bed of roses.

Building your dream house comes with many over buying a home. To start with you have sole control over the design, types of materials to be used; colors, interior design options and layout of different accessories. This is an advantage not available with ready-made homes. Well, we all dream of building our dream homes with all the single details that we so much desire. However, if building your dream home there are pains you have to be prepared for.

Below are some of the building dream housefactors to consider when building your dream house from my experience so far:

(a) Building a new house is always more costly

In some cases, building a new home is cheaper compared to purchasing an existing home. In most cases however, building always tends to go beyond your budget and time. The one advantage of an already existing house, is you already know how much will be spent. You can therefore plan for your savings. Additionally, you can slowly renovate the house once you’ve settled in.

Buying a home on the other hand limits your chances of saving; as you are never sure of how much will be spent, much worse; you can’t move in until the house is almost complete. Additionally, building a new house needs no hurry as it is time-consuming; and will in most possible go beyond the stipulated time-frame.

(b) Custom houses are later harder to sell

Building your dream home comes with the benefit of customizing it to your desired preference. However, houses keep evolving over the years and what may be in-style today will probably be outdated ten years from now. Minimize on too much customizing, build your house in a manner that you can still sell it ten years from now. Pay more attention to rooms; such as the kitchen, bathrooms and number of bedrooms. This gives your home more bids and makes its value appreciate when selling it.

(c) Conduct a prior research before buying land

Buying land is very important in the home building process. Remember land is immovable and it greatly impacts on the value of your property. Consult with other homeowners or get a real estate agent to help you with getting the best location before buying land. Get all the relevant information about the land you have purchased before building if need get help from a legal entity.

(d) Invest your time in the building process

A successfully built home calls for your evaluation on a daily basis. Even after placing the responsibility of construction on your contractors ensure you foresee the process as often as you can. This helps you foresee any problems in advance or alter layouts early enough. Your presence also ensures that all the materials involved will be original; contractors have a habit of buying counterfeit items and pocketing the rest of the money. As tedious as it may seem, try to maintain a consistent evaluation process.

(e) The whole building process is expensive

If you want to successfully build your dream home save enough prior to the project. Avoid taking interim loans as this may put you at risk of losing your property. Considering you will be spending money on a daily basis and large amounts for that matter ensure you are ready for all the incoming expenses. Additionally, hire the best contractors to ensure everything falls into place as this is a lifetime investment.

Building a dream home is not for the faint-hearted

As a matter of fact, it’s a lifelong aspiration; hence don’t rush it through. A successful built house calls for proper prior planning and time-investment. If in a hurry and on a limited budget then building a dream home may not be the best option for you, and less stress and panic attacks! All the best as you get started with your dream homes!
